Don't make the mistakes I made when I first
started selling my books online. I used my web host email accounts to set
up autoresponders to gather my newsletter subscriber lists.
Also, don't use the free gmail email
account to gather names! Gmail shut down my account because those accounts
are not for commercial use. Gmail blocked my account for 48 hours due to
"too much email activity."
By the time I was ready to send out my
newsletters, I had hundreds of subscribers. I had to hire an assistant to
help me upload all these subscribers to my ezine delivery service.
Creating that data base took us a week of ten-hour days.
Why can't you use your autoresponders to
send your newsletter? When you send an email to more than 25 people,
you need a special delivery method. Otherwise, you would have to divide
your list into blocks and send those out individually.
Why not use just a newsletter service
instead of a comprehensive shopping cart? Another major problem, I had
no way of collecting all of my book buyers' email information. This was a
huge pool of potential customers for my other books and products. Plus,
with a shopping cart, you can set it up so that your customers get an
email after so many days to make sure they received their merchandise.
I get thank you emails all the time for checking with my
customers.
Why do you need a Secure Shopping Cart?
People do not want to give you their credit card information. You need
a third-party secure website for them to pay. Many people do not like to
use PayPal. Clickbank charges you too much in fees. For those customers
who like to use their PayPal account, you can put your PayPal
account inside the shopping cart to give them a choice.
With a good shopping cart
service, you can take orders at your workshops and
seminars and either scan the sales or upload them later.
Of course, your bank will offer you a way to take credit
cards and electronic checks online and in person. However,
for about the same cost, you can get a complete system
that gives you one location to capture emails, create web
forms. unlimited autoresponders, broadcast service for all
your electronic newsletters or ezines, order shipping
labels ready to print, and more. Plus, you can sell your
ebooks or other files, collect the money, and send your
customer to a link in your shopping cart to download your
product. This way, people can't get into your website's
hidden pages and get your products free. And, you don't
need to pay extra for more products. (Watch out for those
companies charging $600 or more for each product delivery
capability.)
